Republicans Are Against Calling It Torture

"Any Republican Debate is torture."

The Republicans have explained what they are for, and what they are against.

  • For: Torture
  • Against: Calling it torture
A bunch of kool-aid drinkers are giving Bryan and I heat because of our 3 previous posts. It seems we upset people when we call people, like Mitt Romney, "pro-torture". But I'm not just calling out Romney cuz Guiliani, Huckabee, and Thompson are also on that long list. Again, my extra beef with Romney is that the rest of the Republican Candidates don't claim allegiance to a very liberal, socialist religion (Mormonism) and then advocate torture and suppressing human rights. That's just silly.

But anyways, here are 3 videos from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report talking about the "pro-torture" Republicans.

THE DAILY SHOW CLIP

THE COLBERT REPORT analysis to why people applauded torture

THE COLBERT REPORT interview with Howard Dean

"If you want to run a great country, you don't torture people. The only person who knew what he was talking about last night was John McCain. John McCain knows something about torture. The rest of those guys are just windbags."
-Howard Dean

left turn larry,

I appreciate your criticism.

It's a shame that dozens of international film critics disagree with you.

Good luck at whatever it is that you do.

Clever, but you understand that there is a distinction being drawn, right?

Torture being inflicting physical pain; ripping out fingernails, beating people up, electrocuting people. The U.S. does not condone this because it's barbaric, immoral, and doesn't result in any reliable information because they'll say anything to stop the pain.

"Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" being things that cause no physical harm but exerts a great deal of psychological pressure on a suspect, such as waterboarding, sleep deprivation, blaring Sigur Ros 24/7 into their cell, etc. Then when they give some useful information they get to eat a cheeseburger instead of cold gruel, or get to change out of their wet clothes into dry ones. Apparently these techniques are very effective, and if it turns out they don't have any useful information, no harm done.

Waterboarding hurts. Seriously, have someone do it to you.

If it hurts, it's torture.

I might also add that the reward of a cheeseburger is also torture. Obesity, man. It'll kill ya.

I say if it feels good do it!

It's funny you should say that, because when the whole waterboarding brouhaha hit CNN, my roomates and I tried it on each other in our kitchen at Parkway Crossings. It didn't hurt physically, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. What it does do is freak you out and make feel like a lot more water is getting through the cloth than actually is. The first gush of water comes as a real shock and I sat up right away, but after a few tries we could last pretty much indefinitely. We decided that it would probably only be effective if the person being waterboarded had never experienced it before and actually thought that they were drowning; if you go into it knowing that it's impossible for enough water to get through you come out with nothing worse than a wet head.

Silent Observer,

Maybe you did it wrong.

Maybe you should let me do it to you.

Steven, you aren't talking about one of those "Moons over my Hammy" deals you and Stenar like to do while listening to Kenny Loggins are you?

Stenar and I have only had sex like MAYBE twice. And we weren't listening to no Kenny Loggins shit either. We were listening to the sound of Republicans being horribly tortured.

Steven, I agree with you whole heartedly. It's a shame many so called LDS members have forgotten the basic principals of their faith. I put up a video blog, and am recieve much of the same feed back.... thanks for having backbone!
